MVCC has identified a need for a referral network that provides an integrated system for veterans and their families to receive tailored assistance navigating the provider community to more readily locate and access treatment and support services that match their needs and eligibility. MVCC intends to establish a San Antonio-area network referring the military and veteran community to the appropriate provider for comprehensive services and resources including mental health, employment assistance, disability assistance, housing and utility aid, financial counseling, transportation support, and more.
Toward that end, and through the efforts of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and MVCC, the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) at Syracuse University has committed to bringing its AmericaServes program to San Antonio in mid-2017. This program, to be replicated here as TXServes-San Antonio, is already in operation in several other major US cities, including New York, Charlotte and Pittsburgh, providing an easily accessible network of health and other services with fully-assisted navigation from on-call social workers.
IVMF held Strategy Session #1 in San Antonio on November 10th, 2016. This session, attended by over 80 local stakeholders among the public, private and nonprofit sectors, provided an overview of program design and performance outputs seen in the other AmericaServes cities that have been established to date. The presentation slides from that session and the accompanying AmericaServes Transparency Report provide additional details describing the exciting things to come to Military City USA through the TXServes-San Antonio initiative!
